Tonight sees Steve Kean‘s Blackburn Rovers take on Wigan at Ewood park knowing that nothing less than a victory will maintain their Premier League status.
Blackburn are in a position where they most win both of their remaining games and then hope that other results go their way.
The fixtures don’t help Rovers either, tonight’s opponents Wigan have beaten three of the top 5 in recent weeks and themselves are battling against relegation from the Premier League.
Worryingly for Blackburn they have not been in great form themselves in recent weeks they have won just one in six and only picked up three points of a possible 18, last time out they didn’t manage a shot on or off target in a comfortable 2-0 win for Tottenham at White Heart Lane.
Blackburn are in this position due to disastrous results for them yesterday when all of the sides around them picked up points. QPR snatched a win at Stoke while Bolton threw away a 2 goal lead but held on for a point against West Brom.
As if things aren’t hard enough for Blackburn should they manage to beat Wigan and get to the last day of the season with a hope of staying up they would travel to FA Cup winners and Champions League finalist Chelsea knowing that nothing but three points would be good enough.
The team have also found things tough going at home as they have lost the backing of the home support and many times this campaign have left the pitch to booing, to be fair to the Rovers fans the booing is mainly aimed at manager Steve Kean and owners Venky’s, that doesn’t make it right but at least its not labelled at the players.
It is still possible that if Blackburn could upset the odds and win both of their last 2 fixtures, they could still be relegated as their goal difference is worse than the sides around them.
I personally thinkBlackburn will go down, I think its a bit of a shame they have been a Premier League club for a long time and to be honest I feel sorry for Steve Kean and the way the fans have treated him. This is something that earlier in the campaign I brought up and whilst I think the fans have got better in their attitude that could of done more.
The damage was done earlier in the season and I can’t help but think should the team of had more backing points would have been easier to come by. They also haven’t had things easy this year, at the start of the season everyone would of said Chris Samba was their best player but they lost him to Russian money and a refusal to play at one point.
For the record I think Blackburn will lose their Premier League status tonight and I thinkBoltonwill join them next week.
What are your thoughts? What is Blackburn’s disastrous season down to? Will they lose tonight? Who will go down with Wolves?
