Following Tottenham finishing fourth a position which would normally put them in the qualifying rounds of the Uefa Champions League, many fans who are not supporters of the North London side or Roberto Di Matteo‘s Chelsea have been caught in two minds about who they want to win the Champions League.
Of course Chelsea finished the season in a disappointing 6th place but all will be forgotten if they can win in Munich on Saturday and be crowned European Champions for the first time.
As an Arsenal fan to be honest I’d love to be able to laugh at Tottenham not getting into the Champions League and potentially losing many of their star men. I’d also hate the thought of Chelsea having been crowned European Champions more times than my club.
My Football fan heard is also split too, it’s nice to see sides from your nation who you see week in week out do well and as an Englishman I should be supporting Chelsea, however I’m also a firm believer that Champions League qualification is something earned over the season. It has long been the case in the Premier League that the side that finish fourth gets Champions League entry and it would be wrong for Spurs to be stripped of that privilege.
A lot of fans don’t know who they want to win, many fellow Arsenal fans have said they would prefer to see Chelsea triumph in Munich to see Tottenham play Europa League Football next term. I think that is mainly due to the “mind the gap” taunts from Spurs fans throughout the season.
In my head no matter what happens Spurs cannot have one over Arsenal fans whether they are in the Champions League or not they still finished below Arsenal, where as if Chelsea win the Champions League they will always have some sort of bragging rights over Arsenal.
It would interest me to see what other fans think, fans of Championship, League One and League Two clubs would you prefer to have an English European Champion? or would you prefer the system to be stuck too and the top four teams to be England’s representatives at the top table of European club Football?
Let us know your thoughts…
